More than 100 Firefighters Spend the Night Tackling Rutherglen Blaze
Scottish Fire and Rescue Service deployed 22 appliances and urged nearby residents to stay clear as crews tackled the blaze.
On Thursday, May 7, a major fire erupted at a Nisa Local shop on Baronald Street in Rutherglen, prompting the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service to deploy over 100 firefighters to the scene.
The blaze affected the basement of a C-Listed 1904 red sandstone tenement building, with Operations Control mobilizing 22 fire appliances and additional resources to contain the incident.
Police Scotland closed Baronald Street, Dalmarnock Road, and Farmeloan Road to facilitate the emergency response, while officials urged nearby residents to keep windows and doors shut as a precautionary measure.
Fire crews battled through the night, leaving six appliances at the scene this morning to monitor the site, while the exact cause of the fire remains unknown.
Social media images shared by residents in South Lanarkshire showed plumes of smoke billowing from the site, with locals in the Dalmarnock area expressing concern about the incident.
