Oscar Piastri Poses Max Verstappen Theory Behind McLaren Talks
Piastri said McLaren has been reassuring and that he is contracted and focused on the team despite fresh Verstappen speculation.
On Thursday, Oscar Piastri dismissed speculation that Max Verstappen might join McLaren, confirming his own future with the team by stating, "Yes... I didn't realise it was a point of contention, but yes."
Reports in recent weeks suggested Verstappen might exit Red Bull for McLaren by 2027, fueled by a secret meeting between the four-time champion and McLaren CEO Zak Brown in Austria.
Piastri insisted he remains in a "very comfortable" position after receiving reassurances from Brown and team principal Andrea Stella, noting, "It was the same thing last year with him and Mercedes, so it's nothing new."
Manager Mark Webber rejected the rumours, asserting that Piastri remains contracted to the Woking-based team and dismissing talk of his client agitating to leave as "nonsense."
While Verstappen refused to comment on his future on Thursday, he holds an exit clause from Red Bull that could trigger if he remains below second place in the championship.
