Orioles manager playfully puts on a mask in the dugout to protect himself from foul balls
Albernaz wore a glove and catcher’s mask after a foul ball nearly reached the Orioles dugout, weeks after a broken jaw.
On Sunday, Baltimore Orioles manager Craig Albernaz donned a catcher's mask in the dugout after Pete Alonso hit a foul ball that nearly struck him.
Recovering from a broken jaw sustained last month, Albernaz prioritized face protection during the game against the Athletics to prevent further injury.
Encouraged by Athletics manager Mark Kotsay, Albernaz said, "Alonso hit a ball that pretty much was really close to me, and almost hit me."
The Orioles defeated the Athletics 2-1, securing victory despite the dugout distraction during Sunday's matchup.
Dylan Beavers drove in the winning run in the sixth inning, allowing the Orioles to avoid a sweep against the Athletics.
