Orioles' IF Jordan Westburg Undergoes Season-Ending Elbow Surgery
The 27-year-old infielder had been rehabbing a spring training oblique injury and was shut down after elbow discomfort persisted.
Baltimore Orioles infielder Jordan Westburg underwent Tommy John surgery on his right elbow Wednesday, ending his 2026 season. The 27-year-old's conservative rehabilitation approach proved unsuccessful after his initial injury.
Following a partial ulnar collateral ligament tear, Dr. Neal ElAttrache performed the procedure after Westburg's February PRP injection failed to heal the injury. The team prioritized long-term recovery over immediate return.
Despite an impressive career.768 OPS over 260 games, Westburg has struggled with durability, limited to just 85 games last year due to hamstring, finger, and ankle injuries. His 2024 All-Star season showed his offensive potential when healthy.
Orioles general manager Mike Elias confirmed the team opted for surgery to preserve Westburg's 2027 timeline. "I don't think much of anything was lost in terms of his 2027 timeline," Elias said Friday.
With Westburg sidelined, the Orioles are relying on prospect Coby Mayo and utility man Blaze Alexander at third base. Mayo, 24, has been manning the position while Alexander provides defensive depth and improving offensive production.
