Canadian Company to Become Global Cannabis Leader After Latest Deal
The deal would combine two Canadian cannabis companies and create a larger global operator with stronger scale, capabilities and international reach.
On Tuesday, Organigram Global Inc. announced an agreement to acquire Aurora Cannabis Inc. in a deal valued at C$561 million, offering shareholders a premium over a previous hostile bid.
The friendly acquisition follows a hostile takeover attempt by Curaleaf Holdings Inc. earlier this year, which Aurora's board of directors unanimously rejected.
Organigram CEO James Yamanaka said combining with Aurora "will accelerate the future of a leading cannabis company," creating a global platform with broader capabilities and financial strength.
Aurora shareholders may choose between C$7.80 in cash, 5.8626 Organigram shares, or a combination of both for each Aurora share, subject to approval at a special meeting.
The combined company aims to operate as a disciplined global cannabis leader, leveraging a diversified revenue base and enhanced supply chain to meet growing international demand.
