Oregon Health Authority director Dr. Sejal Hathi resigns
Fariborz Pakseresht will begin July 6 as interim director while the agency faces scrutiny over hospital practices and a recent lawsuit.
- On Thursday, Oregon Governor Kotek announced that Oregon Health Authority director Dr. Sejal Hathi will resign effective Aug. 1, with Fariborz Pakseresht appointed as interim director beginning July 6.
- Hathi led the Oregon Health Authority for less than three years, departing to "focus on family, personal priorities and the next chapter of life and service," the governor's office said.
- Former Equity and Inclusion Division staffer Leann Johnson won $630,000 in a settlement after alleging Hathi fired her following complaints about discrimination and retaliation at the agency.
- Pakseresht brings 35 years of state experience, having previously directed the Oregon Department of Human Services, though he has been named in a lawsuit alleging sexual abuse at the Oregon Youth Authority.
- The Oregon Health Authority manages a $41.5 billion budget serving more than one in three Oregonians through Medicaid coverage, while recent layoffs of nine employees reflect a shift toward prioritizing behavioral health and Rural Health Transformation programs.
