University of Oregon Files Lawsuit Seeking $10,000 From Former Football Player
The university says Fields missed a payment deadline and now owes the full amount, plus interest and attorney fees.
Oregon filed a lawsuit in Lane County Circuit Court last week against Dakoda Fields, seeking $10,000 in unpaid balance, interest, and legal fees.
Under a previous agreement, Fields owed $39,882 for a contract release but could have paid a discounted $29,882 by April 20 to waive the remaining $10,000.
Fields missed the April 20 deadline, causing the debt to revert to the original $39,882, leaving a $10,000 balance unpaid despite multiple requests from the school.
This case joins a trend of schools, including Georgia, Cincinnati, and Duke, pursuing former players for allegedly reneging on name, image and likeness contracts.
Fields, a former prospect from Compton, California, spent two years with the Ducks before transferring to Oklahoma in January; a message seeking comment was left for him there.
