OpenAI DevDay: You Can Now Use GPT-6.1 Sol and Dots, Plus Big Subscription Changes
On Tuesday, OpenAI hosted DevDay 2026 in San Francisco, attended by 2,500 developers, and introduced a new $500-per-month Pro 500 subscription tier offering the highest usage limits and premium speed access.
Starting October 30, OpenAI is cutting the $200 Pro plan usage from 20 times to 10 times the $20 Plus allowance, while simultaneously launching GPT-6.1 Sol as a more budget-friendly model option.
The 'Ultrafast' mode promises to generate tokens at up to 8 times the standard speed in Codex, while existing $200 subscribers receive a one-time grant of $2,500 in usage credits expiring December 31, 2026.
Developer reactions were largely negative, though Thibault Sottiaux, engineering lead for OpenAI's Codex, argued that cheaper, more efficient models will still allow subscribers to complete more work despite the reduced allowance.
Further updates include Dots, new AI agents with multicolored mascots, and enhanced API capabilities such as Bedrock Managed Agents for AWS, alongside a refreshed Codex CLI enabling voice-controlled task management.
