OpenAI Confirms ChatGPT Is Down Worldwide

OpenAI said it applied a mitigation after reports topped 1,560 and users faced login failures, API errors and other disruptions across its products.

  • On Saturday, OpenAI reported global service disruptions across ChatGPT, its APIs, and Codex, marking the fourth incident in four days. Downdetector registered a sharp surge in complaints, with reports spiking to over 1,560.
  • Users encountered 503 errors labeled "biscuit_baker_service_me_circuit_open", preventing server requests. ChatGPT issues made up 80 percent of all reported problems across the platform.
  • Status page logs reveal a persistent pattern, with roughly 166 incidents recorded over nine months averaging roughly 18 per month. The API dashboard listed 12 affected components, with ChatGPT posting the weakest recent uptime over the past 90 days.
  • OpenAI confirmed the outage on its status page, stating "We are investigating the issue for the listed services." The company moved from investigating to monitoring within an hour after applying mitigation.
  • As OpenAI prepares to go public later this year, reliability is critical for its 900 million weekly active users. ChatGPT Work launched this month for 10 million weekly users, making platform stability essential for enterprise adoption.
