Missouri Valley Man Dies in I-29 Collision with Semitrailer Truck Near Council Bluffs
The pickup was stopped in the right lane when the semi struck it, and a passenger in the truck was treated for minor injuries.
A 60-year-old western Iowa man died Monday afternoon when a semi-truck struck his stationary pickup truck on I-29 northbound near 25th Street in Council Bluffs, according to Iowa State Patrol.
Marks' pickup truck was stopped in the right lane of I-29 when the semi-truck collided with it around 5 p.m.; investigators have not determined why the vehicle was stationary.
The semi-truck driver escaped without injury, though a passenger in the truck was hospitalized with minor injuries; video footage captured at least one vehicle engulfed in flames.
I-29 northbound was closed for several hours following the crash and has since reopened between the N. 16th Street exit and County Road G37 exit.
The fatality is one of two serious interstate collisions reported Monday, adding to a troubling trend: 102 people have died on Iowa roads this year, 17 more than at the same point in 2025.
