One Dead, Multiple Injured After Bus Rolls
On Thursday, a bus carrying 29 people rolled over on the Bruce Highway near Rangemore Road in Gumlu, leaving one person dead and 17 injured.
Eleven ambulances, two helicopters, and a Royal Flying Doctor Service plane responded to treat the injured, with two passengers airlifted in life-threatening conditions.
The 70-year-old Mackay man driving the bus sustained minor injuries and was transported to Bowen Hospital; authorities confirmed no other vehicles were involved.
Stretching from Brisbane to Cairns, the Bruce Highway is used by more than 100,000 vehicles daily and is considered one of Australia's most dangerous roads.
The federal government earmarked an extra $812 million for the second stage of Bruce Highway upgrades on Tuesday, adding to $758 million already delivered.
