One dead after incident at Mosaic’s K3 potash mine
Mosaic suspended operations at its flagship Esterhazy K3 potash mine after a fatal underground collapse; a full investigation is ongoing, and support services have been provided.
- On Monday, Dec. 15, 2025, The Mosaic Company reported a fall-of-ground incident at the K3 underground mine in Esterhazy, Saskatchewan, that fatally injured one employee about 90 kilometres southeast of Yorkton.
- A fall of ground is defined as a collapse of rock or earth in an underground mine, and The Mosaic Company said it has not yet disclosed the precise cause, damage extent, or location inside the K3 underground workings.
- Mosaic activated its Emergency Response Team, secured the site, halted mining, opened a full investigation, and provided support through the Employee and Family Assistance Program.
- No other injuries have been reported, and Mosaic expressed condolences, asking for privacy for the family while the Town of Esterhazy offered support to grieving residents.
- The K3 mine was completed in 2022 after decades of operations at K1 and K2, and Esterhazy complex, Mosaic's flagship and the world's largest potash operation, faces heightened regulatory scrutiny, the company reported.
