Olympics: Local blades put Japanese Olympic figure skating champs a cut above
A Nagoya-based steel processing company played a key role in figure skaters Riku Miura and Ryuichi Kihara winning Japan's first Olympic gold medal in pairs at the Milan Cortina Winter Games on Monday, with its cutting-edge blades contributing to their success.
The gold medal-winning figure skating pair Miura Riku and Kihara Ryuichi at the Winter Olympics had a group of craftsmen supporting them on their feet. This was Yamaichi Hagane in Nagoya, a company that manufactures skate blades. Takanori Ishikawa (48), the developer of the "YS Blade," said, "I'm glad we were able to support them.
In the figure skating pairs free program at the Milan-Cortina Olympics, world champions Miura Riku and Kihara Ryuichi (Kinoshita Group) came back from fifth place in the short program (SP) to win the gold medal.
