Okanagan homecomings for Iginla, Preston as Vancouver Giants visit Penticton Vees
Joe Iginla and Mathis Preston, both 18 and recent NHL draft picks, are expected to play before family and friends in their Penticton homecoming.
The Vancouver Giants visit the Penticton Vees on Friday at the South Okanagan Events Centre, marking an Okanagan homecoming for two notable forwards returning to the region.
Forwards Mathis Preston and Joe Iginla, both 18, lead the Giants into the matchup after being selected in the 2026 NHL draft by Anaheim and Calgary, respectively.
Preston, an alternate captain for the Giants and a graduate of the Penticton Minor Hockey Association, previously recorded a goal and an assist against the Vees as a member of the Spokane Chiefs.
Iginla is the son of Hockey Hall inductee Jarome Iginla, who scored 625 career goals over more than 20 NHL seasons.
The Vees' four-game home stand continues with a Saturday night, Oct. 3, matchup against the Tri-City Americans, followed by games against the Swift Current Broncos and Brandon Wheat Kings on Oct. 6 and 9.
