Goalies on the Move: Andersen to Oilers, Bobrovsky to Leafs
Frederik Andersen brings a Stanley Cup pedigree and $1.8 million in bonuses as Edmonton seeks more stability in goal.
On Wednesday, July 1, the Edmonton Oilers signed Stanley Cup champion Frederik Andersen to a one-year, $2.75 million contract, ending his five-season tenure with the Carolina Hurricanes.
Seeking stability after Tristan Jarry's recent performance, the Oilers added veteran depth with Stanley Cup Final experience to bolster their goaltending rotation.
To bolster their depth, the team also traded for 24-year-old Buffalo Sabres goalie Devon Levi on Tuesday, signaling a planned three-goalie rotation among Andersen, Jarry, and Levi.
The incentive-laden contract carries a $1 million salary cap hit with $1.8 million in performance bonuses, allowing the Oilers to retain $6.4M in projected cap space.
Andersen, who won the Stanley Cup with Carolina this year, posted a 13-2 playoff record and told Sportsnet, "It's tough to really describe how much he has meant to me," regarding his late agent Claude Lemieux.
