Oil prices fall over 1% as Iran-Qatar talks raise hopes of diplomatic progress
Brent and West Texas Intermediate fell more than 7% as traders bet diplomacy could curb supply disruptions and ease a $27-a-barrel risk premium, Goldman Sachs said.
On Monday, Brent crude futures fell 1.4% to $111.84 a barrel, marking a technical market pullback after recent price gains.
Diplomatic consultations between Iran and Qatar, now in their third day, have eased immediate tensions, with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi describing the talks as "ongoing and progressing."
OPEC+ members confirmed Sunday that December production targets remain steady, while KCM Trade analyst Tim Waterer noted the price dip reflects a "technical pullback" after recent market strength.
US West Texas Intermediate crude also retreated, falling $1.56 to $102.56 a barrel, down from the six-month high reached at the end of October.
Market analysts warn that escalating rhetoric regarding Iran could drive Brent prices toward $120 after the US midterm elections.
