Officials: Calf Canyon Fire caused by pile burn

Summary by Ground News
The Calf Canyon Fire was caused by a pile burn holdover from January that survived three different snow events after remaining dormant under the surface. The fire reemerged in April, later combining with the Hermits Peak Fire to become the largest wildfire in New Mexico's history. Earlier this month, U.S. Forest Service Chief Randy Moore announced a pause of prescribed burns in all National Forest lands.
