Official says construction of light-rail station to Montreal airport is on track
Project director Steeve Bouffard said the $600 million station is 80% complete and will carry about 7 million passengers a year.
- On Wednesday, project director Steeve Bouffard confirmed the new $600-million REM station at Montreal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport is about 80 per cent complete and remains on budget and schedule.
- This station represents the final segment of the 67-kilometre light-rail network, which will feature 26 stations once complete across Montreal.
- When operational, the station is expected to carry some seven million passengers annually, or about 20 per cent of the 35 million yearly customers projected by 2035. Bouffard cited coordination between airport and REM as a key challenge.
- Airport spokesperson Anne-Sophie Hamel expressed confidence in the system's reliability, noting the station is underground and protected from weather unlike previous branches that faced winter service interruptions.
- The airport link is expected to enter service in late 2027, with crews currently installing electrical systems and completing an architectural feature designed to resemble an iceberg.
