VIENNA. Heat, drought and other extreme weather conditions, according to the National Bank, increase the prices of individual foods and beverages in particular. Overall, the impact on overall inflation has so far been "mostly limited".
This year's record heat and drought has a small effect on inflation. For the period September 2026 to June 2027, the Oesterreichische Nationalbank (OeNB) reports in a "Policy Brief" that, from today's point of view, a weather-related upward contribution for the full year totaling around 0.1 percentage points to total inflation. On 11 September, the OeNB publishes its new economic and inflation forecast.
