Odisha Cabinet Approves ₹4,182 Cr-Scheme to Give Wings to Aviation Sector

The Rs 14,182 crore B-MAAN scheme aims to modernize airports, create MRO facilities, and generate aviation jobs, supporting Odisha as a key Eastern India aviation hub.

  • On Saturday, the Odisha Cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Majhi cleared the B-MAAN umbrella initiative, which integrates infrastructure development, modernization, and maintenance of airports and heliports.
  • The scheme aims to position Odisha as a leading aviation hub in Eastern India, with a dedicated fund providing VGF and incentives to airlines linking tier-II and tier-III towns under UDAN.
  • The scheme provides for operational upgrades including creation of an MRO ecosystem at Biju Patnaik International Airport, aviation-focused skilling for women technicians and pilots, and coordination by the Commerce and Transport Department with industry partners.
  • Implementation will run over five years to cover greenfield and brownfield airports in underserved regions in Odisha, improving regional access and operational efficiency.
  • The plan also promotes futuristic technologies including drones, seaplanes, e-VTOL aircraft and aerospace manufacturing while strengthening air cargo infrastructure to support agricultural exporters and industrial supply chains, the Odisha government said.
