Ex-Giant Odell Beckham Jr. Reveals when He Knew He Was Joining Vikings After Being Released
Beckham said Minnesota felt like the right fit after a call from Kevin O'Connell, who helped bring the veteran receiver to a 4-0 team needing passing help.
On Wednesday, October 7, 2026, the Minnesota Vikings signed 33-year-old wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. to their practice squad after the New York Giants released him on September 29.
Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell, who served as Beckham's offensive coordinator with the Los Angeles Rams during their 2021 Super Bowl-winning season, personally recruited him. "It seemed as if he wanted me to be here," Beckham said.
Superstar receiver Justin Jefferson, a fellow LSU alumnus, said "we've been brothers for a very, very long time." The undefeated Minnesota Vikings rank last in NFL passing yards, seeking offensive consistency.
Preparing for their upcoming game against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday, O'Connell believes Beckham will be able to get up to speed in time for the matchup.
Beckham, a 2014 Associated Press Offensive Rookie of the Year, has recorded 7,987 receiving yards and 59 touchdowns over 122 career regular-season games. Minnesota hopes to extract reserve-role value from the veteran.
