South Korea's Naver Jumps 10% on Nvidia's US$1 Billion Investment Plan

The deal will help expand Naver’s AI data centre capacity to 200MW by 2028 and support Nvidia’s DSX platform, the report said.

  • On Friday, Naver Chairman Lee Hae-jin and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang signed a $1 billion strategic investment agreement at Nvidia's California headquarters, securing a 4.5 percent stake for the chipmaker.
  • The investment follows an agreement between the two companies in June 2026 to jointly develop gigawatt-scale AI factories, expanding their partnership beyond Nvidia's role in supplying graphics processing units .
  • Naver announced on Monday that it will issue about 7.24 million new shares to Nvidia, while planning to cancel about 4.9 million treasury shares worth about 1 trillion won on Aug. 3 to offset dilution.
  • Following these moves, Nvidia is expected to become Naver's third-largest shareholder behind the National Pension Service and BlackRock, marking Naver's first share sale in 22 years since its 2008 KOSPI listing.
  • The funding supports a wider $10 billion financing plan to increase the GAK Sejong AI data centre capacity by 2028, while reports indicate Naver is seeking to acquire cryptocurrency exchange operator Dunamu in a $10.3 billion deal.
