Nvidia, Corning Form Partnership to Expand Fiber Optic Manufacturing

Corning will raise U.S. optical connectivity capacity 10-fold and add more than 3,000 jobs to support NVIDIA’s AI infrastructure push.

  • On Wednesday, May 6, 2026, NVIDIA and Corning Incorporated announced a multiyear partnership to dramatically expand U.S.-based manufacturing of advanced optical connectivity solutions for next-generation AI infrastructure.
  • Three new manufacturing facilities in North Carolina and Texas will be constructed to meet accelerating demand from AI factory buildouts, creating more than 3,000 jobs and increasing Corning's optical manufacturing capacity by 10-fold.
  • Moving data via photons uses five to 20 times less power than moving electrons, Corning CEO Wendell Weeks stated, making optical fiber essential as server GPU counts climb into the hundreds.
  • NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang called the collaboration a "once-in-a-generation opportunity to reinvigorate American manufacturing," positioning the companies to build AI infrastructure foundations where intelligence moves at the speed of light.
  • This deal follows NVIDIA's $4 billion investment in component makers Coherent and Lumentum in March, while Corning's stock has surged over 250% in the past year, reflecting investor confidence in AI infrastructure.
