The number of refugees living in Germany has fallen slightly to about 3.5 million people. According to the Federal Government, this is due to deportations, departures and naturalisations, as well as fewer new refugees from Ukraine.
The total number of refugees living in Germany decreased slightly by around 20,000 in the first half of 2026, reaching 3.507 million.
