Number of mental health detentions made in Blackburn revealed in new figures

Summary by Ground News
Around 185 detentions were made in the former NHS Blackburn with Darwen CCG area in the year to March 2023 – or 120 for every 100,000 people in the area. Under the Mental Health Act, people with a mental disorder people can be detained – also known as being sectioned – if they are judged to be a danger to themselves or other people. Black people were far more likely to be detained under the act, with 225 detention per 100,00 people – compared to 65 for white people. Mind is calling on whoever forms the next Government to "urgently prioritise" an overhaul of the act.
