N.S. spending $366,000 to promote local boatbuilding companies
Funding from the Community Economic Development Fund will support trade shows, online promotion and naval contract bids for local firms.
On Monday, The Nova Scotia government announced an investment of over $350,000 to help local boatbuilders expand into new markets through the Community Economic Development Fund.
Established in 1998 to diversify beyond domestic fishing, The Nova Scotia Boatbuilders Association maintains small vessels for key industries including fisheries and defence.
Through trade shows, missions, and online communications, the association will promote local companies and help builders compete for national defence priorities and international naval contracts.
Executive director Jan Fullerton said the investment ensures the "ongoing health of our industry, and the rural communities," supporting businesses like Wedgeport Boats Ltd. in Yarmouth.
By expanding into new markets, The Nova Scotia positions local builders to secure broader international contracts and sustain rural jobs and maritime infrastructure long-term.
