Britain will not join Canada-led defence bank initiative
The two countries will keep their defence-financing plans separate while pursuing a cooperation framework, and the Canadian-led bank aims to raise €100 billion, officials said.
- On Sunday, Britain confirmed it will not join the Canada-led Defence Security and Resilience Bank , opting instead to pursue its own Multilateral Defence Mechanism for defence financing.
- Ottawa spent months attempting to secure British participation, but the two governments could not agree on headquarters location, procurement levels, lending rules, and criteria for admitting new members.
- Britain's Multilateral Defence Mechanism focuses on accelerating defence investment and joint procurement across NATO, while the DSRB emphasizes sovereign lending to support defence industries and supply chains.

- London will work in lockstep with Canada to meet NATO spending targets, while the Canada-based DSRB continues securing support from Belgium, Turkey, and Ukraine despite Britain's separate path.
