'Misconnection' Caused Raw Sewage to Spill Into River Severn in Newtown

WALES, UNITED KINGDOM, JUL 18 – Dur Cymru Welsh Water discharged raw sewage for over 968,000 hours in 2024, marking a 42% rise in pollution incidents over ten years, prompting fines and calls for urgent operational reforms.

An incident that saw raw sewage entering the River Severn in Newtown, Powys, was blamed on a “misconnection” on the water network.
