Douglas and Northern Illinois Win 81-76 in OT Against Dayton
Douglas scored 27 points and Weisbrod added 19 as Northern Illinois won despite Dayton's late push.
On Saturday, November 7, Northern Illinois defeated Dayton 81-76 in overtime at UD Arena, with David Douglas Jr. scoring 27 points for the Huskies in what coach Anthony Grant called one of his worst losses in 10 seasons.
Dayton trailed by as many as 17 points in the first half, struggling to recover from an early 6-0 deficit. The loss marked the Flyers' first defeat to a Horizon League team since a 59-42 loss to Detroit in 2001.
Northern Illinois shot 40% from 3-point range while Dayton managed just 11.8%. Max Weisbrod forced overtime with a game-tying 3-pointer with 13 seconds left, and the Huskies sealed victory by making 6 of 6 free throws in the extra period.
Following the victory, the Huskies climbed to No. 260 in the Pomeroy ratings after entering at 310th. Northern Illinois had bounced back from an 89-87 loss to Grambling State on Monday and a 94-75 loss to Tulsa on Thursday.
Dayton hosts Siena at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, November 10, at UD Arena as the Flyers aim to recover. The team holds a 1-1 record after the setback in their second game of the season.
