North West 200 Rider Dies After Station Corner Crash
Organizers red-flagged the session and later revised the schedule after consulting Holan’s family, as the crash became the event’s 20th death.
A Superbike competitor died on Thursday following a crash at Station Corner during qualifying for the Briggs Equipment North West 200. Emergency services attended the scene, but the rider succumbed to injuries.
The Briggs Equipment North West 200 takes place on 8.97 miles of closed public roads around the Triangle Circuit connecting Portrush, Portstewart, and Coleraine in Northern Ireland, attracting around 100,000 spectators annually.
This incident marks the 20th fatality at the NW200 since 1939 and the first in 10 years, following English Supertwins rider Malachi Mitchell-Thomas's death on May 14, 2016.
Organisers confirmed the event will continue after consulting with the deceased's family, who requested the rider remain unnamed. The Coleraine and District Motor Club offered sincere condolences.
Racing is set to resume Thursday evening with roads closing between 4.45pm and 9pm for three races, though qualifying sessions will replace the original race schedule following the morning stoppage.
