North Sea operators warned to step up decommissioning
Oil and gas companies face a warning for slow decommissioning of North Sea sites. They plan to spend £24bn on decommissioning between 2023 and 2032, up £3bn from last year's forecast.
As more oil and gas fields close, hundreds of wells must be decommissioned annually. Operators accomplished only 70% of planned well decommissioning last year.
Regulators are cracking down on operators failing to adhere to decommissioning obligations, aiming to ensure compliance.
