Police said Nathalie Belizaire faces four child-neglect counts after authorities found the children alone in the apartment while she took a 3-day cruise.
- On Monday, authorities arrested 29-year-old Nathalie Belizaire at PortMiami as the Carnival Conquest returned, charging her with four counts of child neglect without great bodily harm.
- Belizaire departed Friday, September 25 on the 2,980-guest Carnival Conquest for a three-day Bahamas cruise, despite assuring the children's father and great-grandmother Denise Wilkes that childcare would be arranged.
- Lether Bazile saw a WhatsApp post depicting a cruise ticket purchase Thursday, then visited the apartment Saturday and heard only television and children's voices, prompting him to call 911.
- Belizaire appeared in bond court Tuesday with her bond amount pending; she remains detained at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center facing up to five years in prison and $5,000 fines per count if convicted.
- Similar incidents have occurred; in April 2024, Lakesha Woods Williams left her children ages 8 and 6 home while cruising, and Carnival told USA TODAY the arrest was a law enforcement matter unrelated to ship operations.
