North Carolina Early Voting for the Midterms Begins Oct. 15. What Voters Need to Know
Early voting is off to a strong start in North Carolina, with more than 27,000 people casting ballots across 370 locations in the first few hours, according to state election officials.
Gov. Josh Stein cast his ballot Thursday at Chavis Community Center in Raleigh alongside First Lady Anna Stein, emphasizing the election has officially begun. "If you want to change, come and get your voice heard," Stein said.
While all polling sites opened on time, state election officials reported initial tabulator issues. Parker Holland, the State Board's deputy director of elections administration, said counties have "second day procedures" in place to handle equipment problems.
Voters reported wait times between 15 and 45 minutes to cast their ballots. Same-day registration remains available through Oct 31 for those who missed the Oct 9 deadline.
State Board officials anticipate significant voter participation this year, as early voting has become a preferred method for many North Carolinians. In the 2024 general election, 74% of voters cast ballots during early voting.
