Non-local labourer killed, another injured in terror attack in Kulgam
- On Friday, suspected terrorists opened fire on two labourers at a brick kiln in the Kelam area of Kulgam, resulting in one death and one injury, officials said.
- The victims, identified as Chhattisgarh residents Deepak and Bhupender Kumar, were targeted in the attack. Deepak was declared dead on arrival at the hospital, while Kumar was referred to the Government Medical College in Anantnag for treatment.
- Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha strongly condemned the attack, saying, "I strongly condemn this cowardly act. I have directed our security forces to step up their operations and eliminate the terrorists."
- Security forces cordoned off the Kelam area and launched a search operation to trace the assailants. This follows Thursday's discovery of a suspected terrorist hideout in the Rajouri district's Bhangai forest area.
- The Kulgam shooting follows another violent incident less than ten days ago in Anantnag, where terrorists killed a police officer, underscoring persistent regional security challenges.
