Noel Tata files caveat in City Civil Court against Venu Srinivasan, Vijay Singh, and other SDTT trustees
The filings seek notice before any interim or ex-parte order and come as regulators examine complaints over SDTT governance and trustee appointments.
Tata Trusts Chairman Noel Tata and Neville Tata filed caveats in the High Court and Mumbai City Civil Court to ensure prior notice before any orders affecting their interests are passed.
The move follows complaints by SDTT Vice Chairmen Venu Srinivasan and Vijay Singh seeking 'an immediate inquiry into the administration and governance of SDTT' and scrutiny of Noel Tata's chairmanship.
Previously, Tata Trusts filed 84 caveats before the Maharashtra Charity Commissioner. Independent counsel Vyapak Desai noted this ensures 'no ex parte order or relief against the caveator shall be passed' without a hearing.
The Maharashtra Charity Commissioner granted SDTT a one-week extension until October 19 to respond to complaints. These caveat filings remain procedural and do not indicate a determination on the merits of the dispute.
Given the significance of Tata Trusts in India, developments remain under close scrutiny as the path forward depends on substantive applications filed before the courts and ongoing regulatory examination.
