- On Tuesday, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways proposed extending the age limit for battery-operated, hydrogen fuel-based, and CNG vehicles by five years under draft amendments to the Central Motor Vehicles Rules.
- The government published draft rules on August 10, inviting public objections for 30 days before amendments take effect following final publication in the Official Gazette.
- Authorizations for national permits could be granted electronically for up to five years, with applications in Form 46 and authorizations in Form 47 processed digitally while data is automatically fetched from the VAHAN portal.
- Vehicle owners must specify an Aadhaar-linked mobile number in Form 20, while dealers are required to provide GST, PAN, Udyam Aadhaar, and Corporate Identification Number details in revised application forms.
- Temporary registration for adapted or out-of-state vehicles will be valid for 45 days, while a chassis without a body receives temporary registration valid for six months from the date of issue.
