Nintendo Adds VRR Support to Docked Nintendo Switch 2 in Latest Console Update, Offering Improved Refresh Rates for Certain Games
Version 23.0.0 lets compatible games use variable refresh rate in docked mode and adds full data transfer between Switch 2 consoles.
Nintendo released the version 23.0.0 update for the Nintendo Switch today, officially enabling Variable Refresh Rate support for docked play after users enable it in Display settings.
Previously, Nintendo confirmed Variable Refresh Rate would only work in handheld mode after briefly removing official information about the feature before this expansion.
When consoles and displays are out of sync, noticeable glitches like screen tearing or stuttering occur; Variable Refresh Rate matches the game's refresh rate to reduce these artifacts.
The update introduces "Complete Data Transfer" between two Switch consoles and adds background music to the Mii editing screen, controllable with a single button press.
These improvements follow two Nintendo Direct streams earlier this week featuring reveals for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake, Metroid Ravenous, and Monster Hunter Wilds.
