TOKYO The death toll from Typhoon Dujuan, which struck eastern Japan earlier this week, rose to nine on Wednesday as authorities continued searching for four people who remain missing. The majority of those killed were victims of landslides caused by heavy rains, some drowned in vehicles in flooded lowlands, and more than 500 homes were seriously damaged as a result of landslides; some 25,000 households remained without electricity in two prefectures; and more than 100 underground and dead vehicles remained on the roads of the affected region.
Nine people have died in Japan due to Typhoon Dujuan, which has been affecting the country since the beginning of the week.
