NIGERIA, JUN 24 – Olukeye Adedayo Olalekan received a 76-year sentence after blackmailing a Surrey teen with intimate images, leading to the victim's suicide, authorities said.
- A Nigerian man, Olukeye Adedayo, was convicted and sentenced last Thursday for blackmailing a 14-year-old Surrey, B.C., teenager who died by suicide in 2023.
- Olukeye Adedayo was charged with 18 counts related to child pornography possession and distribution, attempted extortion through threats, money laundering, and the creation of an Instagram profile under the boy’s name to share the illicit images.
- The judge found Adedayo guilty on all charges and handed down 18 prison sentences to be served at the same time, with the longest term being seven years for each of four charges related to acquiring property through deception.
- Among the prosecution’s witnesses was a sergeant from the RCMP’s unit that handles serious crimes, and police reported that the boy believed he had shared images with a teenage girl during a brief online encounter.
- The case followed a multinational investigation into financial sextortion, highlighting efforts by law enforcement to combat online exploitation of minors.
