- On August 13, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency operatives arrested Lagos-based socialite Afolabi Kazeem Michael, known as KC Luxury, at Murtala Muhammed International Airport while attempting to flee to Paris following a 184.5kg cocaine seizure.
- NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Buba Marwa disclosed on Tuesday that the agency intercepted the 184.5kg consignment, valued at about $27.7 million, marking the largest cocaine seizure through a courier channel in agency history.
- Alongside Michael, operatives arrested logistics employee Lawal Kehinde for processing shipments, while a search of his Banana Island, Lagos, residence yielded exotic vehicles, jewelry, and cash totaling £7,750, €2,800, and N100,000.
- Marwa described Michael as the Nigerian "arrowhead" of an international cartel operating a trafficking route from South America to the United Kingdom, with international counterparts arresting other syndicate members abroad.
- The agency continues to strengthen intelligence-led operations to prevent traffickers from exploiting courier and logistics companies, which investigators increasingly target as alternatives to traditional seaports for moving narcotics internationally.
