Nick Foligno injury means season debut for Nico Sturm
Nico Sturm entered the lineup on the fourth line after Nick Foligno’s upper-body injury left Minnesota short a winger.
On Thursday, forward Nico Sturm made his season debut for the Wild in Tampa Bay, slotting into the fourth line with Michael McCarron and Yakov Trenin after the team's first manpower loss.
The roster change followed Nick Foligno sustaining an upper-body injury during Tuesday's 3-2 overtime loss in Buffalo. Foligno is day-to-day but will miss the remainder of the road trip.
Wild coach John Hynes, who scratched Sturm for the first three games, expressed confidence in the forward, stating, "He's confident in his game, the way he needs to play, so I'm excited for him to get a chance."
To address the roster vacancy, the Wild recalled forward Tyler Pitlick from Iowa on Wednesday; Pitlick played 32 games last season, scoring two goals.
The Wild conclude their three-game road trip Saturday in Sunrise, Fla., against the Panthers, though Hynes noted defensive lapses: "We gave them three odd-man rushes on the power play, and I think nine total.
