News We Love: Teen donates handmade pillows to foster children
Eliza White donates one pillow for every sale and says her handmade tags are meant to remind foster children they are loved.
Eliza White, a 14-year-old from Gretna, Nebraska, sells handmade pillows at craft fairs through her business, Eliza's Encouraging Pillows, donating one pillow for every purchase to children in foster care.
Foster care is central to the White family, which grew from three to eight members in two and a half years; mother Kailah White and the family have adopted siblings Everett and Layla.
When social workers brought foster child Eliana to their home, she arrived with only a backpack containing one of Eliza's pillows. "It's just the biggest feeling I've ever felt in my life," Eliza said.
Family involvement drives the business: great-grandmother Shirley taught Eliza to sew, while grandmother Tanya helped create the business plan. Eliza jokingly calls them her "momager" and "nanager."
Each hand-stuffed pillow features a signature tag reading, "You are strong; You are loved," as Eliza has donated hundreds of pillows over the years to ensure foster children know they are loved.
