New Zealander Daniel Hillier Wins BMW with Hole-in-One Despite Mishit at Spanish Open
Hillier aced the 187-yard 17th to claim a BMW iX5 valued at 140,338 euros and moved into a tie for fourth.
During Thursday, New Zealander Daniel Hillier aced the 17th hole at the Spanish Open, winning a BMW iX5 SUV despite being unhappy with his initial 8-iron strike.
Tournament rules reserved the all-electric vehicle for the first player to record a hole-in-one on that specific hole this week. Hillier admitted he 'toed it quite a bit' before the ball rolled in.
Valued at 140,338 euros , the BMW iX5 SUV helped Hillier finish his opening round at 4-under 67, leaving him tied for fourth place after Thursday's first day.
Expressing surprise, Hillier said, 'I didn't realise a car was on offer,' while noting he was 'absolutely stoked.' The ace marks his fifth career hole-in-one.
Grant Forrest, Connor Syme, and Eugenio Chacarra share the early lead at Club de Campo Villa de Madrid with opening rounds of 5-under 66. Sergio Garcia remains one shot back.
