Daylight Saving Ends Today in Florida, but See Fall Back Dates Until 2036
Most Americans will turn clocks back one hour as the Senate leaves a House-passed bill to make daylight saving time permanent stalled.
Daylight saving time officially ends at 2 a.m. local time on Sunday, Nov. 1, when clocks move back one hour. Despite President Donald Trump's efforts, the Sunshine Protection Act remains stalled in the Senate, forcing Americans to reset their clocks as usual.
On Monday, Oct. 26, Trump criticized the Senate for failing to pass the Sunshine Protection Act. Senate Majority Leader John Thune told Politico on Oct. 5 there is 'no clear path forward' for the bill, which passed the House in July.
Surveys show 62% of Americans want to end clock changes, though preferences on permanent settings vary. In a March 2025 poll by Elon Musk's DOGE, 58% favored later daylight while 42% preferred earlier daylight.
K-12 study data reveals 94% of large school districts would see children commuting in darkness if DST became permanent. Religious groups and ski operators in the Mountain West have raised concerns about safety and prayer times.
Sleep researchers warn permanent daylight saving time could cause long-term circadian misalignment. Barnes told USA TODAY such changes could be 'bad for sleep and health outcomes,' noting experts argue standard time aligns better with the body's natural clock.
