Trump picks Katie Zacharia as next White House press secretary
- On Friday, the White House offered the position of press secretary to Katie Zacharia, a communications adviser for President Donald Trump's Truth Social platform, succeeding Karoline Leavitt who departed in August.
- Zacharia currently serves as a senior communications adviser for Trump Media & Technology Group and previously worked as a spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security until departing in March.
- Before her media role, Zacharia served as a legal adviser for Fix California, a conservative group founded by Richard Grenell, former Trump envoy to Venezuela, addressing what it described as "the left's stranglehold" on state politics.
- If she accepts, Zacharia would fill a critical role for the Trump administration ahead of next month's midterm congressional elections, though she has not yet responded to requests for comment.
- The New York Times first reported the offer, which a White House official confirmed to CNBC on condition of anonymity, though Zacharia has not yet formally accepted the position.
