- On Tuesday, Hasbro announced the 40th-anniversary re-release of The Transformers: The Movie will include Optimus Prime: Awakening, a 12-minute animated short featuring Peter Cullen's final performance as the Autobot leader.
- The announcement follows Cullen's death last week at age 85 in Los Angeles, after voicing the Autobot leader for over four decades. The re-release has been branded an "Apology Tour" for the movie that killed off Optimus Prime.
- Frank Welker returns as Megatron and Soundwave in the "fully realized" short, which Paramount describes as "a love letter to the Transformerscommunity." The short screens after credits during the anniversary screening.
- Calling the final performance "a real gift," Welker stated, "I will miss my friend, but that voice and his heart and values will always be part of Optimus Prime." His tribute underscores the emotional weight of Cullen's legacy.
- The 4K version returns to theaters September 17 through September 22, with Fathom Entertainment confirming screenings across 10 countries including France, Singapore, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Panama, and Peru.
