New Texas poll finds Talarico leading Crockett by 9 points in Senate Democratic primary

  • Earlier this week, an Emerson College/Nexstar survey found state Rep. James Talarico leading U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett by nine points, 47% to 38%, among likely Democratic primary voters with 15% undecided ahead of the March 3 primary.
  • About a month after a Texas Southern University survey, Spencer Kimball noted `Talarico has built momentum among Hispanic and white voters, while a majority of Black Democratic primary voters support Crockett`.
  • The survey was conducted Jan. 10-12, 2026, with an overall sample of n=1,165 and a Democratic primary sample of n=413 , using MMS-to-web texts and an online panel matched to the Aristotle voter file.
  • If no candidate tops 50%, the top two advance to a May 26 runoff, with Ken Paxton leading at 27%, John Cornyn at 26%, and Wesley Hunt at 16%. The poll suggests Ken Paxton is tied with either Democrat at 46% to 46% in hypothetical matchups.
  • With nearly $7 million raised in Q4 2025, James Talarico, state representative , leads amid top issues: economy , threats to democracy , immigration , and 83% likely to vote in Texas, which hasn't elected a Democrat statewide in over 30 years.
