Police Hope New Picture Will Help Them Solve Nearly 50-Year-Old Murder in Portsmouth
Investigators hope the image will prompt classmates, neighbors and witnesses to share details that could help solve the 1982 killing.
On Sunday, the New Hampshire Cold Case Unit released a previously unseen photograph of Tammy Little, marking the 44th anniversary of her unsolved 1982 murder in Portsmouth.
Little, a 20-year-old Portsmouth Beauty School student, was found dead in her 315 Maplewood Avenue apartment on October 19, 1982, three days after being last seen alive on October 16.
Investigators seek information from former classmates, Maplewood Avenue residents, and anyone who saw Little between October 16-19, 1982; tips can be submitted to 603-271-2663 or coldcaseunit@dos.nh.gov.
"Tammy was the most joyful person," her family said in a statement, emphasizing their commitment to honoring her memory and seeking justice for the homicide.
Authorities are reviewing case files and evaluating physical evidence for modern forensic testing, mirroring the approach that solved the 1981 Laura Kempton case via DNA in 2023.
