Chad Gilbert, New Found Glory Guitarist, Dead at 45
His bandmates said his guitar playing and songwriting shaped New Found Glory for nearly 30 years.
On Sunday, September 20, 2026, New Found Glory founding guitarist Chad Everett Gilbert died peacefully in his sleep. Bandmates and his wife, Lisa Cimorelli, confirmed the passing in a joint statement.
Gilbert battled cancer since 2021, later diagnosed with aggressive stage 4 adrenocortical carcinoma. He underwent multiple surgeries, including an emergency procedure in 2026 to remove three brain tumours.
Co-Founding the band in 1997, Gilbert helped shape the pop-punk genre over three decades. He played on more than a dozen albums, including the 2026 release "Listen Up!".
Bandmates Jordan Pundik, Ian Grushka, Cyrus Bolooki, and Dan wrote they were "devastated and shocked." They credited his "guitar playing, songwriting, humor, and relentless drive" for defining the group.
Gilbert is survived by Lisa Cimorelli, his daughter, Lily, his mother, Jackie, and his brother, Brian. He was remembered as a legendary musician whose "favourite accomplishment was being a husband and father.
