New electric car market suffers smallest growth since December 2023
- November marked the new electric car market's weakest growth in nearly two years, with 39,965 new pure battery electric cars registered, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders .
- The year-on-year increase was only 3.6%, the smallest since December 2023, which saw a decline of 34.2% due to supply chain issues and a strong previous month.
- The overall new car market also declined by 1.6%, with significant drops in private buyer demand noted by SMMT Chief Executive Mike Hawes.
- Hawes emphasized that the lack of steady demand for electric vehicles should be a wake-up call amid the upcoming new tax on EVs, set to impact drivers from April 2028.
